In architectural models, there are these miniature people. They cross neat squares, they wave to one another, they sit on park benches and wait for real people to eventually take their place. They are busy, cheerful, intact. No one is drunk, no one has too many children, no one needs a haircut.
«Render Ghosts» is a theatre performance that blends tableau vivant, ghost story and stage essay, exploring visions and designs for future urban living environments through the lens of architectural models. The combination of pre-recorded videos of newly built neighbourhoods and the fragmented live presence of the four performers on stage creates an atmospherically dense theatrical space that captures the eeriness of the models and makes it a sensory experience. The performers interact on stage with their avatars in the videos, oscillating between radical stillness, creeping change and sudden movement: by appearing at times present and in motion, at times seemingly absent and fixed in the frame, the ghostly quality of the human figures from the models is transferred to the stage. Who governs public space? (text: Die Soziale Fiktion)
